Set and submit independent reading goals. 500 pages 70%; 750 pages 85%; 1000 pages 100% -
Keep index cards as book marks. Record title, author, genre on card. Record date and time read. -
Parents/guardians, study hall monitors, coaches, other adults must sign off times read. -
Write 2 to 3 sentence recommendation on the card upon completion and have teacher sign. -
Students with 85% average and/or A effort at the end of the first quarter are exempt from timed sign-offs. Journals: Students are expected to write about what we are studying in class. Effective January 23, 2012 (beginning 3rd quarter): English 12: Each entry must --be minimally 150 words each; --show evidence of thought, intelligence, development; --must be legible; --must be written in complete sentences; --must be labeled: Week of 1/23 #1, #2, #3, #4. English 11: Each entry must --be minimally 150 words; --connect to literature we are reading in class. (2 entries: both about literature read in class; 3 or 4 entries may include 1 of 3 or 1 of 4 about independent reading or Social Studies.) NO PLOT SUMMARIES. --be legible; --be written in complete sentences; --be punctuated correctly. Shakespeare and Literature: Each entry must --be legible; --be developed; --make connections by analyzing the literature we are reading; --make connections by responding to the literature we are reading; --be content specific. 2 50-point entries/week 70% 3 50-point entries/week 85% 4 50-point entries/week 100% Essays: Will be assigned by class and be content specific. Students should expect weekly writing assignments in addition to their journal requirements.
